New Year, New You!

Kimberly Celebrating the New Year

New Year and a Fresh Start gives you a feeling of Rejuvenation! Are you in?

Celebrating the Season, making resolutions is scary, but try this.

Instead of one resolution this year I am again going to make 12 resolutions.

Now how daring is that!!

Here is the twist…

A new one for every month of 2012;

Yes,I am going to commit to something new each month. I do believe there is truth in the fact that you can change a habit in just 21 days. So if I can do something for 30 days it should be easier to flow into the rest of the year. Just think I get to start each month fresh, no guilt about what did or didn’t happen with the knowledge that I will work thru the resolution every month both personally and professionally.

Here’s what happens if you don’t make a resolution!

Did you know that by not making resolutions you are not allowing yourself to have a fulfilling life? What you might be asking yourself? Well, by not writing down goals, which is vital to all businesses, why would it not be vital for your personal life as well? By not finishing or starting you are instead procrastinating the scary potential or outcome. Procrastination can lead you to not conquering your fears and in fact not getting ahead.

Don’t believe me?

Ask yourself this, have you taken a class in which you have not done anything with the new knowledge you have gained, but you know of at least three things during that class that you said “yes” this is easy? Or have you started a project and never finished it completely? Well, I have a quilt I started years ago and I am going to get it finished.

Next, ask yourself how many times you have thought about a project or how many times you have I looked at my son’s bed and wished the quilt was finished. The time I have spent over the year thinking and wishing I had completed the project would have probably been 3 times the amount of time it will actually take me to finish the project. That is where the stress and frustration come in.

Let’s make it EASY!

I hear you already, if you can’t make one resolution how do you find 12 different resolutions? Here is the easy part;

I never said I was going to make them so hard that I would dread doing them.

You have to write them down – that is vital.

I have come up with a few ideas you can find below that you can use or think about what frustrates you thru the year and try to pick a month that it works best to focus resolving that goal. My business coach always tells me to “15 Minutes.” And It works! I bought a timer and commit to doing projects ’15 minutes’ at a time and then move on to the next item.

Resolution Ideas

Finish all of those projects that you started with passion and then display them or use them.

Find a more efficient way of getting the housework done this month. That might include getting a new equipment or hiring a maid, why not, what can you do with your time if someone else does something for you.

Talk, act, and be more positive and offer encouraging words to those around you every day.

Listen more, don’t interrupt or assume you know what others are going to say or think. Imagine what you will learn.

Christmas Shoebox Gifts waiting for kids

Get your year in order – Plan your birthdays, family time, holidays, functions, classes and get things in order for those events. Businesses make a plan every year and if you run your home like a business why not have a yearly plan in place, this will help you have a great year. When you plan, thing happen, good things.

Get your financial affairs in order. This might be a scary one to some, but even if you do something it is more than most people do. Don’t ignore this one. Get you’re spending, budgets, expenses and savings in order.

Find a way to ‘GIVE’ to others for a whole month. You can give your time, money, or donations of “stuff” you don’t need anymore. Giving will bring a smile to your face. It was wonderful to take my kids this christmas to Serve other kids and help in the Spirit of Christmas. I was amazed at what sunk in and how it has helped them see other and appreciate what they have. The picture here shows how many kids in our city got gifts this christmas because someone put a shoebox together.

Make your home more “GREEN” even if it’s just changing the light bulbs or changing the way you sort your garbage, every little bit helps see click here for easy and quick ideas. We will be doing a green month and sharing some of our finds with you, I would love if you share your finds with us.

Sort your family photo’s — who doesn’t have a gazillion photos on the computer and none to actually look at. I have started to print and hang those picture frames that I bought so long ago. We painted the walls and it is time to put them up on the walls and cherish them as they should be cherished.

A new sport to Learn

Learn something new every day. When you keep a diary of what you learn, do and how you spend your days being appreciative, it will make you smile and proud of yourself. Here is my son with his new snowboard, He is going to try to learn how to snowboard so what sport, language, skill will you try to master this year.

Here is one I like Treat ME Month! Pick the month you were born in and make this month about YOU. Give yourself 5, 10, 15 minutes or an hour a day to do what ever you feel you need or want to do. But just because it’s for you doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put this in your day timer just like any other appointment.

Make yourself a Book of Gratitude. Every night before we go to bed we ask our kids what their favourite part of the day was. I learn so much about their world and how they see it. What are you thankful for each day? What was your favourite part of the day? Be sure to start your day with this one, it will give you a new perspective.

Exercise and eat better – for a whole month, I want to get into the habit of planning our dinners better, the kids lunches better and be sure to add your vitamins into this program. Exercise has been given to me because I have recently hurt my shoulder so I am motivated to do this everyday so I can avoid surgery. So finding the motivation in any of your resolutions is the Vital WHY that will make and help you keep your resolution alive.

Play and Laugh More with your children – How often do your kids say ‘Mom can you help me or play with me or read to me? Our answer, not now Honey, or I need to finish… Well this month comes along why not let them pick something to do every night together with the family. Especially in times where we are watching our finances there are lots of ways to keep this type of entertainment free. They say kids laugh hundreds of times in a day and it is healthy to laugh, it makes the endorphins in your brain active. So Laugh and Play like you are a kids again.

Family Dinners – commit to eating together, no TV, actually talking about everyone’s day or what the next day will bring. Just a few days ago our power went out. It was a good thing that I had just finished making dinner. So we dug out the candles, put them on the table and got the flash lights out. They thought it was like camping in a big tent. They loved it and we really had a great family conversation.  So Turn out the lights and give the gift of your presence to the family with special dinner time.

Send a note, card  or letter when is the last time you got a something in mail other than a bill? Make some one’s day, it doesn’t need to be long, just personal and hand written. You can thank someone, pop a note to congratulate someone or even just send them a note with a bit of inspiration for them. It will go a long way and when you pop it in the mail box, you will also feel amazing.

Good luck with your resolutions, Remember the most important thing about making and keeping resolutions is in the planning, writing it down, and figuring out WHY and How will accomplishing this make your life better.
