What can you learn from an Elephant?
Are you leading or being left behind?
Elephants are amazing animals. On my honeymoon - many moons ago - we went to Africa for a month. I think if I would have traveled there when I was single I may not have returned. I loved lots of things about Kenya and our trip opened my eyes in so many ways.
Mostly it made me appreciate what we have here in Canada.
But this is about elephants. It is documented that they have amazing memories and will stand by their family when challenged.
September is like January - in the way that there are so many things starting fresh again. School, holidays are over, businesses do some budgeting and planning and I wanted to let you know that September is International Strategic Thinking Month.
So it's time to Think about Your business.
Take a piece of paper and just brainstorm with yourself. Do you remember when you first started in business? Your passion, your ideas, your drive - You probably wanted to conquer the world with your ideas. New entrepreneurs have something that everyone needs.
GUTS and ambition!
Be Brave and have some GUTS...
Do something that makes you stretch beyond your comfort zone. If you don't your business won't GROW
So try this:
- go to the zoo, watch the children, listen to what questions they ask, what excites them? What do the animals make you think of?
- go for a walk or a drive in the country where you can think - leave your phone behind.
- ask yourself "what would I do if there was a cash reward of a million dollars if you solved or thought of the next Hot Invention? How could you do this in the next two days? Deadlines have a funny effect on us.
- rent a funny movie and laugh, it is miracle drug.
- go to a candy store, what candy did you forget about? Try something new, something you hated, what is your reaction?
- take $15 to a dollar store and see what creative ideas you can come up with
- do a crossword puzzle, play x and o's, use your brain to think of new words
- go hang out next to a fireplace with a blank pad of paper and colored pen everyday for a week. Just let your thought come out on paper, see what ideas you come up with, what are your interests, what is you passion. Again, leave your phones, iphones and blackberrys in the car.
- be silly for a day and wear a funky hat. What do other think, what is the reaction. Are you too serious and they think you have gone off the deep end?
- wear a Hawaiian shirt, a bright color, a superhero costume, try this and see how your brain and smile change? You can't help but smile all day.
- go back to every idea that you ever wrote down and re think it, plan it, what would it do for your business, your customers?
- form an alliance with someone. What about me, what about your competitor, nothing gets ruled out.
Go thru each idea, you are not allowed to BASH anything.
Everything get evaluated, the pros's, cons, what if's. That is the greatest question of all.
What if... Ask that to every idea or thought you have.
Look at everything from the Elephant's perspective - Way High...
They are heard animals, so talk to others, brainstorm, give the idea to your kids and see what they do with it. You will be amazed, as long as you have an open mind.
If you don't allow your self to explore your thinking, expand and try new things, you WILL NOT GROW, but your competitors will.
don't get left behind. Be the leader.

Tribute to Tori
Kilometers for Kids
Tori Stafford will never be forgotten.
Her father Rodney Stafford will never be the same. And he knows it.
But how can you help?
Rodney is not an athlete, he was a smoker, but in memory of his daughter Tori who was 8 years old when taken from her school this past spring, he got on a bike on August 5th and is riding across Canada - Right now -as we sit at home, at work, he is making things happen.
He is averaging about 90-140 km a day and his final PUBLIC stop will be in Edmonton on Saturday September 19th.
So How Can you HELP - AND we Do NEED your help...
Since all his fund-raising proceeds during his cross country trek will be going towards CHILD FIND.
I have be personally contacted, met with Rebecca Stafford (Rodney's sister who lives here) and am happy to be involved in helping plan this grand finale here in Edmonton on Saturday, September 19th from 1-5 pm
Here is what we need:
- To help promote the event to your customers, You can download this poster to place in your store, on your web site
- They are looking for gently used purses to help raise funds that will be sold for $5, $10 or $15 at the event. We also need drop off locations for these purses.
- Would your place make a good location? Please contact Kimberly to find out more. If you have a purse to donate please contact Kimberly
- Volunteers - Child find will be in need of some volunteers that day as will I.
- Prize Donations - they are looking for a few great prizes that will be raffled of alongside the bike that Rodney Stafford is riding that they will auction of. Contact Kimberly
- Link to the face book page to help follow Rodney.
- MC - If you know of a public Celebrity that would make a great MC I would love to talk with them
- Do you know Paul Brandt? The Stafford family would really like Paul Brandt to sing the Alberta Bound song, as Tori learned the words while on her visit to Alberta in June of 2008. Another request is Johnny Reid. So if you can help plan music or book one of these great Alberta personalities, please give me a call.

I just can't imagine what going through this type of circumstances would be like, but please help Rodney put Tori's memory to rest by being a part of this Tribute to Tori. If we can help just one more child be saved from this experience it will all be worth it.
