Moms, Dads and Kids is the Only |
|

We are going thru a bit of a hard day today at our house. I tell you this not to make you sad, but in hopes that if you have any pets in your family you will do me this one favor today and give them a EXTRA BIG HUG, EXTRA TREAT or even just add an Extra BLOCK to their WALK today. Above, you see me with my Triple Dogs, Kasper the big white guy as we call him, Kiwi, a true border collie who is always right at your feet behind you and never runs away and Kenya our flat coat retriever who's sad eyes made me bring her home from the Human Society almost 7 years ago.
Over the last month we found out that Kenya had cancer, in fact two weeks ago they removed her spleen because a 6LB (yes SIX LBS) tumor was pushing on her throat and tummy and causing her to feel she could not eat. Hence the 20 some lbs she lost in a month in which she was actually starving herself. This morning she lost that fight to Cancer and it has been a true learning experience explaining to the kids what Cancer really is, how puppies get it and why can't they see it. They have had so many questions, as kids do, that it has taught me to never assume an answer, but to always try to slow down and find a easy way to explain it to them. At one point my daughter wondered if god would bring a new Kenya to us in exchange for the sick Kenya, and if God would bring a picture of Kenya and Mousy (our Cat that past away last year) for Christmas so we could check to see how they were doing and to make sure Kenya found Mousy up in heaven. Stages of life and death are in every home, but the love that we give and the UNCONDITIONAL love that our pets bring to our lives is what touches me today. Never once did Kenya complain, her eyes and ears perked up every time even until last night about going for a walk. She wagged her tail even though she could hardly sit up.
So I ask that you do me two favors.
I know as parents we get so busy with everything and sometimes our pets don't get all the attention they deserve, and they are okay with it. Tonight be sure your family includes your pet as you read to your kids eat dinner or what ever you do tonight with your family. For me pets are family and I would love if you could share your photos of your kids and the family pet with me. It will truly make me smile. This may seem weird, and I didn't know what I would be writing today but this gives me a bit of strength for the day and I want to include more photos of other families with their pets. Deep down inside I will know how much they add to all the lives they touch. If they are high enough resolution I would like to add them into our next edition and I just know those photos will add love to our book and many smiles.
Please do send your photos to Kimberly@momsdadsandkids.com
There is so much going on this weekend all across the province and some great ways to get away for the weekend that I have to share with you, you can even take your pet or go see some new pets. But first I have to add this in.
Yes I know Halloween is over, but Keri Zingle from Craft Caravan sent this craft idea too me and I loved it. I just didn't get a chance to get it too you with all the stuff in our house before Halloween. My apologies, but it is a great idea to do as mine are still eating candy and playing with their costumes... And check below for some deals on Next year's costumes from Starbright For Kids.

Five Minute Fun - Tissue Ghosts
Make a string of Halloween ghosts by placing a cotton ball in the center of a piece of facial tissue. Gather the tissue around the cotton, creating a head for your ghost. Secure head with a twist tie or piece of string. Add eyes to the head, completing your ghost. Make several ghosts and string together for a Halloween garland.
