Spring is Around Which Corner?

In need of options?

So if Spring officially begins on Friday and there is still this much snow... have the weather gods forgotten to press PLAY or FORWARD?

Liittle girl gardeningCABIN FEVER seems to be common in most Alberta homes with children. I know first-hand...I have a few more grey hairs and am desperately looking for ways to wear my children out. So I have put together 5.5 ideas on making the most of the last few Cabin Days that should add some fun before we need to pull out the rainboots and prepare for the Muck and Stuff!!

1. Visit a Photo Booth: Pictures are fun and they provide memories forever. When kids are giggling, that is what is special to remember. Pack up the kids and find a Photo Booth. Pack a surprise bag filled with a few of their favorite fun hats, googly glasses, tiaras or even a made up sign with which to pose in the photo booth. Post them on your fridge or send them to the grandparents, hang the pictures on a string in their rooms or make a bookmarks for a gift.
2. Make some Frozen Bird Treats: In a plastic cup, jar or fruit cup, place some water, bird seed. Submerge part of a loop made from ribbon or yarn so that you can hang it up. Leave outside, It will freeze over-night. In the morning dip the jar in hot water to release it and hang outside for all the birds who have arrived and are shaking their wings and feathers wondering what they were thinking. It can last for weeks if the weather stays cool enough.
3. Make a Home-made Tent: Get the sheets, blankets, quilts and make a homemade tent in the living room. My son has used every blanket and sheet in the house, he has made paths, reading areas and we always take in a flashlight to read a book. David Bouchard would be proud.
4. Get ready for Easter: Take the kids shopping for some new Easter Decorations; make some Easter Gifts; dyed eggs (why not do them early?) don't wait for Spring, bring the Spring indoors.
5. Start some seeds: Gather a foil tray, cupcake tray or some small pots, fill them with sand, and place some seeds on top, then top dress with a bit more sand. Have the children be responsible for watering it every day; make it a routine at breakfast or dinner and watch for the first "pop" of green. Why not make your cat happy and plant some Cat Nip or Cat Grass, they will love you.

5.5 Come see me at Chapters and Indigo where I will be signing books and presenting our Birthdays in a Box Ideas. They have story-telling for the children while I share some great fun, inexpensive and creative out of the box Birthday Party ideas.
